Sleep Issues

For as long as I can remember we have been battling sleep issues with Patrick. He gets up often in the night to wander, get into trouble or to forage in the fridge. I have brought it up before with his doctor, but the doctor has dismissed it as behavior problems. I happened across a research study about kids that have been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD and sleep issues, so I gave them a call. They were happy to have Patrick and in to screen and see if he qualified for the study. We went last Friday to the sleep lab. I spent the evening second guessing myself, did he really have a problem? Was it a behavior problem? Patrick was a champ. He loved the fact that he had a cool room with a TV in it and that he could control the remote.

We call him FrankenPat.

We just got the results back today. They were looking for kids who took longer than 45 minutes to fall asleep each night or woke throughout the night for 45 minutes of time.

It took Patrick 105 minutes to fall asleep. He woke a few times for a wake time of 21 minutes and had two episodes of restless or spasming limbs.

Patrick will be participating in a clinical study to approve the pediatric use of Lunesta. I sure hope this helps with our sleep issues.

More Pool Fun

We got to hang out by the pool again today. It is so much fun watching the kids play around and wear themselves out. Today they were hams for the camera and wanted me to take pictures of their jumps from the diving board. I am pretty excited about the way they came out.

Cross Bend Christian Church Block Party

Today our church hosted what we hope to be a yearly event. Our First Annual Block Party was a huge success. Activities included a huge 34' water slide, a gigantic slip 'n' slide, a karaoke station, a full 18 hole putt-putt course, inside games and bingo, BBQ treats for everyone, door prizes, and Kona Ice (a full, on-site shaved ice truck where you can pick and make your own snow cones)!

The weather was very nice and the breeze kept it from getting unbearably hot. I have to say that the putt-putt course was a huge hit for both of my kids. Patrick kept going back and almost missed dinner because of it.

July 4th - Hanging out at the pool

We had a great time hanging out at a friends house yesterday. They smoked chicken and we all brought food to hang out and swim. There was a tiny rain storm in the middle of it all. During the rain, we took a break for dominoes and a movie for the kids.

I am so very lucky to have good friends close by.

I just love the gaps in Owens teeth.
