For as long as I can remember we have been battling sleep issues with Patrick. He gets up often in the night to wander, get into trouble or to forage in the fridge. I have brought it up before with his doctor, but the doctor has dismissed it as behavior problems. I happened across a research study about kids that have been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD and sleep issues, so I gave them a call. They were happy to have Patrick and in to screen and see if he qualified for the study. We went last Friday to the sleep lab. I spent the evening second guessing myself, did he really have a problem? Was it a behavior problem? Patrick was a champ. He loved the fact that he had a cool room with a TV in it and that he could control the remote.
We call him FrankenPat.
We just got the results back today. They were looking for kids who took longer than 45 minutes to fall asleep each night or woke throughout the night for 45 minutes of time.
It took Patrick 105 minutes to fall asleep. He woke a few times for a wake time of 21 minutes and had two episodes of restless or spasming limbs.
Patrick will be participating in a clinical study to approve the pediatric use of Lunesta. I sure hope this helps with our sleep issues.
