Family Camping - Purtis Creek State Park

The kids had early release on Thursday and a student holiday on Friday. We decided to take advantage of the long weekend and go camping. We went to Purtis Creek State Park, the last time we camped there was Spring of 2007 with our old cub scout pack. We had a raccoon visit our site on Thursday night, but after that there were 5 dogs on our two sites so they left us alone. The coyotes were also very vocal each night, Alison even woke up and commented on their singing.
We had 3 other families camping with us, and our old pack happened to be at the park at the same time. The kids had no shortage of people to play with.

Horse Camp - Camp Tonkawa

Alison and I attended Horse Camp this past Saturday. We went up to Collinsville, Tx to Camp Tonkawa. I can not recommend them enough. They put forth a great program all around and did an excellent job for our 3 Brownie Scouts and the 9 Junior Scouts that were there at the same time. We will be planning a return visit soon with the rest of our Girl Scout Troop. We are even planning a family visit so that Patrick can enjoy the horses as well.

I was lucky enough to be able to help out in the corral with the horses. It all quickly came back to me and I had fond memories of my grandfather and dad working our horses on the ranch in Caldwell. At one point I walked by Alison and her horse to hear her quietly singing "Home on the Range". That was the song that Daddy Bill would often belt out on horseback when we were riding on the front pasture. I am sure he was looking down on us, proud that I had his granddaughter up on a horse, but disappointed that her choice of foot gear was a pair of shiny red rain boots. Daddy Bill loved his Cowboy boots.
