4th of July - Family Camping

This year we went to Caprock Canyon State Park. It was a 6 hour drive for us, we got up and on the road at 6:30 on Thursday morning. We got there around lunchtime. The staff members at the park were wonderful, they let us head out to pick out our sites, we had most of the park to choose from. The sites were very large, plenty of room to put our huge tents. The weather was great, we had a little bit of rain on Saturday night, but nothing go to wet. The hiking and views were wonderful. A nice change from our normal camping.

Craig and Pat took Hayden and Patrick on the Upper Canyon Trial. It was a rough hike, but the boys were troopers. They came back filthy and exhausted. Craig said they did an awesome job an the tough hike.

The whole campout was a success. We had great food as usual, great friends to hang out with and tons of fun.

We heard the coyotes each night, had a skunk visit our campsite, saw plenty of rabbits. There were tarantulas that walked through camp daily and huge Millipedes. Alison was a champ at catching and holding all of the bugs that made the boys squeemish. The horseflies were a bit of a problem. We also saw Quail and wild turkey.

Hiking on Canyon Rim Trail.

Looking at the bat exhibit at the Park Office. We were going to go see the bats, but then we found out we would have to leave the park, drive to a remote spot and then hike 9 miles at dusk.

Alison and Jessie with two friends they met camping from North Carolina.

The boys playing Uno in Patrick's tent.

This guy was hiked through our site a few times each evening.

One of Many Millipedes, Alison was the only one who would hold it.

The park offered an awesome Take Me Fishing Clinic. The kids and Dads learned a lot.

Alison practicing knots.

Patrick helping demonstrate a new knot. He got a cane fishing pole for participation.

Ali crashed in the car when we got out to get more ice.
